Tutoring Information
Individualized One-on-One Tutoring
Every child begins with a comprehensive review of their educational and psychoeducational testing to identify their unique strengths and areas of need. Using this information, your child’s Orton-Gillingham Academy-trained tutor develops a personalized, diagnostic, and prescriptive lesson plan designed specifically for them. As your child progresses, lessons are continually adjusted to build on successes and address new challenges.
Students typically attend one-hour tutoring sessions two to three times each week. Consistency is one of the most important factors in successful remediation. While every child progresses at their own pace, the average course of intervention is approximately 2½ years.
Dyslexia is a lifelong neurological difference, not something that can be “cured.” However, with systematic, explicit instruction, children can learn to read, write, and spell successfully. More importantly, they gain confidence, independence, and the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.
Optional Intensive Summer Program
To help students make accelerated progress, we offer an optional four-week Summer Intensive Program. Students attend five days a week for focused, one-on-one instruction. The increased frequency helps strengthen reading and spelling skills, reinforces learning, and minimizes summer learning loss. Many families choose this option to give their child a strong academic boost before the new school year begins.
IEP and School Collaboration
Supporting your child extends beyond the tutoring session. When appropriate, your tutor can attend IEP (Individualized Education Program) or 504 Plan meetings to help families advocate for their child’s educational needs. Your tutor can explain your child’s progress, interpret Orton-Gillingham recommendations, and collaborate with school personnel to ensure that classroom accommodations and interventions align with your child’s strengths and challenges. We believe that when parents, tutors, and schools work together, children achieve the best possible outcomes.
